Day 22 – A letter to someone who has hurt you recently

An open letter...

I've been dreading this one. Its really not my style to air my dirty laundry in public too often, and no one has hurt me THAT much that I would want to write a letter to them here.

Just like everyone else, I do have disagreements with people, and can be hurt by words. I have experienced it many many times, and those in the scrapbooking world know all too well how bitchy it can be. Its just paper and glue and wanting to share memories. That's it.

We should all be way more supportive of each other. Its the competitiveness in us to be recognised, to be appointed to design teams, to have the newest product or the newest technique that causes jealousies and bitchiness.  I too love to be praised for my work and I love working on design teams, don't get me wrong, but perhaps when our mothers said "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all", we should have listened to her advice.

I love scrapbooking. I love the creative outlet, the product, the colours, the fun, the friendships... everything... except for the negativity and criticism that some people feel necessary to impart.

Try to find the good in people's work, even if its their colour choices, or their heartfelt journaling. Remember that its all subjective. It would be a truly boring craft if we all scrapbooked the same. Don't be disheartened if you don't get a layout picked up for publication, or don't make that design team.

Most importantly, remember why you started scrapbooking in the first place.  FOR YOU!

Regards,
Lisa Warren

scrapbooker. blogger. peace out.

Camp Mojo | Challenge #6

The next challenge has been revealed for Camp Mojo!  For challenge #6, you have to create a canvas with the theme "Birds of a feather".  I was asked to contribute a sample for the challenge reveal...and here it is...
Those who know me, know that otp scares the bejeezes out of me...as does getting messy. lol. So, this was a great excuse to get out of my comfort zone.  The canvas is 4x5" and has been coated in layers of glimmer glam and ink.  I was trying to challenge my inner Scraptivate girl, and I know that I didn't go nearly far enough to reach their creative abilities. lol. The colours I've used are Rockin' On Sunshine (yellow), Pink Lipstick and Mermaid.  Chipboard is Maya Road, and new flourish by Scrapware. I cut up a Prima flourish for the greenery and the nest material is from Scraptivate.  Eme was ooohing and ahhhhing the whole time I was playing, so no doubt she will claim it for her room.

I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with!

tfl, Lis.

Day 21 – A photo of something that makes you happy

Ok, the pic isn't of something, but someone...

...but it is something that makes me happy...

I don't often get to spend time alone with hubby. We lead such busy lives, what with raising two children, working full-time, running a business and a household, afternoon activities, you name it...pretty much the same situation as any couple out there.

We recently won an overnight stay at Schonegg Country Guesthouse, and this weekend we drove down to Murrumbateman (about 2.5 hours from our house) and spent the night in the beautiful countryside, dining on delicious platters of food, tasting the local wines and just relaxing.  It was so lovely.  We drove around the local vineyards and picked up a few new favourites.  Evelyn and Richard, the owners of Schonegg, made us feel so completely welcome. I would highly recommend going there. Just before dinner, all the guests met in the guest lounge for wine and canapes (the most delicious German onion cake - must google that recipe), then we all retired to our own private spaces for dinner. Andrew and I had the guest lounge to ourselves and it was just wonderful. Every room has a perfectly private view of the countryside.  Over dinner, we shared a bottle of wine from Yarrh that we'd picked up during the day. Felt very grown up. lol.

Even though we don't have alone time together very often, I'll take the little snippets we can get. Feeling very re-energised.

Cheers, Lis.

Inspired Blueprints - sketch #60

Sketch #60 was revealed at Inspired Blueprints on the 15th!  I can't believe its taken me until now to share my layout!! Crazy, crazy days indeed.

Here's my take...this pic was taken when my nephew Cameron was only 2 days old. He's nearly 4 months now...my how time flies! I love being his Aunty. He's such a solid little fella and we just adore him. Yesterday we got to spend some precious play time with him. I walked into his bedroom, and there he was in his cot, bright eyed, just smiling and waiting for me to pick him up and give him a cuddle.
Here's the sketch if you want to play along! I love the simplicity of this sketch. It will suit so many different styles of photos.
Upload your takes on the sketch into the Inspired Blueprints gallery by midnight 30 November 2010 to go into the draw to win this month's prize!

Cheers, Lis.

Day 20 of 30

Day 20 – The meaning behind your blog name

"heyhoewarren?" you might ask. There's a simple explanation really. Heyhoe is my maiden name and Warren is my married name.  I wanted my blog name to be a little unique, but reflect who am I.  Even though 9.5 years have passed since we've been married, I still feel like a Heyhoe.

When Andrew and I first got married, I had every intention of keeping my maiden name, but it didn't happen and I can't remember why. I remember a sales assistant calling me Mrs Warren and I turned around to look for my mother-in law. lol. Its not every day that you have such an unusual name. Its very difficult to let go of it.  I'm incredibly proud of my name...so proud that both of our children have Heyhoe as a middle name.  I have thought about getting it tattooed somewhere, probably on the middle of my back.  Both my mum and Andrew will recoil in horror when they read that...they weren't impressed with my first tattoo. oops. Don't worry...when I do decide to get it done, it won't be crazy big.

"Heyhoe" is a really old Anglo-Saxon name that predates the 7th century when they used topographical markers to name people.  Essentially it means something along the lines of "dweller by the high ridge".  My great grandparents George and Mabel, and my grandfather Frederick, came to Australia from the UK in 1911.  This photo was taken around 1915-18(?). My Pop is pictured in the centre, with my great grandparents, and two of his brothers, Francis and Sydney, who were born in Australia.
If you come across another Heyhoe, we'd be related. There's not a lot of us left!  Send them my way!

Cheers, Lis.

Day 19 – Another picture of yourself

So, this is the most recent profile photo I have of myself. It was taken at my friend Sandra's Halloween party.  Even though I don't do the "costume" thing, I always make some kind of festive fascinator.  You should see how much hot glue is under that tarantula! lol.  Thankfully Halloween and Melbourne Cup are on in the same week...loads of sales at Spotlight, so I was able to make this one for under $10! Crazy, I know.

I have become quite the expert at self portraits...gotta get that angle just right to negate the fact that I have such a round face and double chin.  A little editing in picnik and its ready to share with the world.

What tricks do you use to make yourself look more presentable in photos?

Cheers, Lis.

Day 18 of 30

Day 18 – Something you crave a lot

At the moment I am craving pain relief!  I often get migraines and a sore back, and I am over it in a big way!!  This weekend I was working on the Scrapware stand at the Sydney Papercrafts Festival.  I had an absolutely fabulous time, however after standing for so long, my back and left knee are aching immensely.  Enter TENS!
Mark from TENS was demonstrating and the pain relief was incredible! I definitely NEED one of these! Santa are you listening??!

Cheers, Lis.
...off to take some pain killers...

Day 17 – A photo of you and your family

I just realised, we haven't had a decent photo taken as a whole family in seven months!! That's terrible!
This pic was taken at this year's Easter Show...and it only happened because we ran into my cousin and she took it for us.  All too often, I am the one behind the camera.  Well, that just has to stop...starting NOW!

I urge you all...go and set the timer on your cameras and take that family photo! Learn from my fail.

Day 16 – Your celebrity crush

Seriously? You really think I'm going to put it out there?!! Ok, its Justin Bieber...
JUST KIDDING!! Just...I'm sure my 14 year old self would have him posted all over her bedroom walls.

Let's see...there's no-one that really makes me swoon...however, if my dog ever gets sick, I might just have to make a trip to Bondi...
...ahhhh, Dr Chris Brown...enough said.

White with 1...yellow

This month's challenge on the White With 1 blog is to create a layout which predominately uses white, with yellow. The challenge criteria is to do your journaling directly onto your layout...no journal spots or strips!  Here's my take...
The journaling reads... "What a sight! normally we find wasps in the bushes, but this time it was a swarm of bees...all clinging onto one another, trying to protect their queen. Funny though, when they flew away, we found out it was all bees...no hive!"

That swarm of bees was about a foot long...strangest thing I've ever seen in my yard. Ever.

Feeling up to the challenge?  Check out this post for more details on how to link your entry.

Cheers, Lis.
