Yesterday...

Our beautiful little girl turned 4!Emeline has been looking forward to her birthday for months. She was adamant that she wanted a fairy party, so that's what she got. Here's a few pics...the rest are on facebook if you're interested.
We had planned on hosting her party at the local park, however the wind was whipping around at over 100km/hr, so we had to go to Plan B...a party at home! Eeeekkk!!! Andrew quickly cleaned up, we rang all the parents, organised extra indoor activities and we were set.

To go with the fairy theme, I baked (yes, baked) and decorated a fairy princess cake. There was fairy bread (thx Annette) and delicious pink cupcakes (thx Beth); the kids decorated their own fairy wands with tonnes of glitter and other cute bits. We played pass the parcel (thx Mum) and danced to Justine Clarke and had fun....and it was all over in two hours...phew.She was spoilt rotten with lots of pressies. We gave her a new birthday doll (the doll has its own birthday cake and can blow out the "candle") and a pram, as well as a Tinkerbell book/pillow, puzzles etc and the most gorgeous Princess Ratbag pettiskirt! She looked just adorable in it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a good photo in all the chaos, so will have to do that soon.

She also received a Disney Princess kitchen and Tinkerbell outfit, which she adored! She spent the afternoon, after all the guests had left, making Andrew and I "fried eggs on toast" and "milkshakes". lol....too cute. We're yet to go through all the gifts her friends gave her, but I spy a few Barbies and clothes and books and lots of fun in those gift bags. This morning when she woke up, she declared she was FOUR and soon she'll be FIVE!! Slow down chicken...we have another 364 days before that happens...I don't won't her to grow up too soon. We're still getting used to having a bonafide four year old.

tfl, Lis.

School layouts...

Yes, you read that title right! I scrapped school photos!! lol. The Girls Loft Kit I'd purchased was full of yummy school colours and bits and bobs...just perfect to lift those dreadful school portraits. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you would know that Sethy-boy doesn't normally look this pained. lol. I tell you, those blue school shirts on the blue background, paired with a child with messy hair and forced smile, are just not inspiring at all. Having said that, I really like how this layout turned out. The full title was going to be K-Y, as he was in Kinder Yellow last year, but I thought better of it. hehe. I think the trick to scrapping these photos is just to ignore the photo...lol.
This next layout features a photo taken by Seth's current teacher at Grandparents Day this year. I cut the alphabet border using Cricut's graphically speaking cartridge. Seth is so lucky that all four of his grandparents were able to come along and celebrate at the school. Apparently when they walked through the door with all the other grandparents, Seth was craning his neck to see who was coming to visit him...he was so surprised and happy and proud to show off his work. The teacher also told the grandparents how well Seth's doing at school and what a joy he is to have in her class. Four grandparents went home that day with very puffed up chests filled with pride.

I've still got enough goodies in my kit to make a few more layouts, so I'll upload those soon. If you haven't scrapped those school photos yet, get to it! Its not as scary as it looks.

Cheers, Lis.

Layouts to share...

Last night, I taught a class at Scrapbooking Delights and here are my layouts. There was no particular theme for this class...just lots of fussy cutting, adding dimension, using diecuts and stickers...and journaling (v.important girls!). lol.

Here's some detail shots...
Most of my layouts are about moments or feelings, not actual events. I do feel obligated to scrap Christmases and birthdays etc, but usually they get put aside. I still haven't scrapped my son's naming day or the last two Christmases...hoping to rectify that soon.

School photos are another theme I get stuck on...but this time I have a bit of help. I sent in a question to Scrapbooks Etc - 911 Dilemma asking how do I scrap school portraits (they're always so uninspiring!) and they published it, together some samples from their designers. So, armed with that info, and a great new kit from The Girls Loft...I'm ready to go! Tonight I'm off to the midnight crop at Scrapbook Savvy, and I'll be working on those photos. Can't wait!!

Have a great weekend everyone! TGIF. Lis.

Inspired Blueprints - Sketch #30

Sketch #30 has been revealed at Inspired Blueprints and its a cracker! Its a great sketch for fitting lots of photos on one layout. Check out how the rest of the IB team interpreted this sketch.
Here's my take. I've swapped out the two right hand side photos for one 6x4. Once again I've dipped into some older pics. Seth was only 20 months old in these ones...look at those curls and chubby toddler arms!!! These pics were taken when Andrew and his brother went go-carting. The journaling reads "I don't know who enjoyed the day more? Andrew racing around the go-cart track, or Seth cheering for his Daddy!!"
I've mixed Bella's Sarah Jane papers with some older Basic Grey and Mustard Moon. I like how the background looks like a chequered flag.

There's still time to enter this month's draw at Inspired Blueprints. Upload your take on either/or both Sketch 29 and 30 into the gallery by midnight, 30 September 2009. Good luck and I can't wait to see your takes.

Cheers, Lis.

Savvy - blind scrap reveal

The gallery is open for everyone to upload their takes on the Scrapbook Savvy blind scrap challenge, which was held last Saturday night. Here's my layout...
Sar's instructions were fab and I'm really happy with the finished product. Looking for a challenge? Be sure to join us at Savvy in October for the next blind scrap challenge.

I love dipping into older photos...these ones are of Seth and Andrew at the beach back in January 2007. This was the first time that Eme had been to a beach (pics on another layout) and Seth had a ball filling up his bucket and pouring it over the sand.

Weather update...lol...The redness in the sky has died down, but its still windy and dusty. I'm looking forward to the rain coming this afternoon!

ttfn, Lis.

From my front porch...

These photos have not been edited at all. A dust storm blew in over Sydney overnight and we woke up to a red sky and dust galore!! Very very strange indeed...feels like we moved to Mars! Normally, when I look in this direction, I can see the Illawarra escarpment...the mountains have disappeared altogether!

Well...looks like we'll be packing Eme's asthma spray this morning...that dust could be terrible for her! What's the weather like at your place??

Father's Day mini album

A few posts back, I mentioned that the kids and I made a mini album for Andrew for Father's Day...and here 'tis...

I punched eyelets through a cheap 6x4 album and inserted ribbon to make a closure. Each opening includes a black and white photo and a journaling spot made from black cardstock and Sassafras Lass patterned papers and stickers. Seth and Eme drew some pictures to add and Seth completed the journaling. Super easy to make and Andrew loved it!

Sometimes...

You start a layout and you have no idea where you're headed with it. That was me on Friday night at the Scrapbooking Delights midnight crop. I managed to churn out half a layout. HALF A LAYOUT!!! Seriously...my mojo was in the toilet. Mind you, I was more than happy to sit there and soak up inspiration from everyone else and chat and I still had a good time. On Saturday morning, I placed my layout on my scrap table and kept coming back to it all day long...just adding stuff and adding stuff, until I thought I'd added enough. lol. Here's the end result. I kind of like it. Its a bit different to my usual style and I managed to use up a lot of little bits and bobs I'd had lying around. I even managed to use some themed cricket paper! lol. This photo was taken by Eme recently when she'd "borrowed" my camera and decided to play with it outside...all fun and games until the dog ripped it out of her hands! Don't panic...it survived. I think it might be time to invest in a taller set of stumps...Seth's cricket bat is looking decidedly little now.

Hope you all had a good weekend. TFL, Lis.

Savvy reveal...Scrapware and Prima

This month, the Scrapbook Savvy DT got to play with some gorgeous Scrapware chipboard and Prima flowers...and here's what I created.

First up, I have used Scrapware's large Naomi flourish, and Quillen Gallery Roses by Prima. These pics are of my good friend Kim and I. The journaling reads "She inspires me, supports me and likes me for me"...so true. If it weren't for our regular get togethers, I think I would go mental.I have covered the Scrapware flourish in Queen and Co Beadifuls and coated it in Dimensional Magic...just so they NEVER fall off! lol.
Next up, I have used Scrapware's Love Fern and scalloped journal spot, and Prima's Jewel Box flowers. These photos were taken recently at my beautifully pregnant friend Rachael's baby shower. I love making all kinds of things, and had so much fun making her a nappy cake full of baby goodies. I also baked a bird nest cake complete with mumma bird, daddy bird and baby bird (lol), and bird nest cupcakes (the "eggs" are choc coated almonds).
I have spritzed the chipboard pieces in Coffee Shop glimmer mist and layered the tree over the top of the Prima flower. I also added some jeweled brads to add "fruit". hehe.
Lastly, this layout uses the other piece of Scrapware Naomi flourish and a decorative corner and more Quillen flowers. This pic of Eme was taken on her third birthday...I can't believe she'll be four next week! Time certainly flies.
Once again I've used glimmer mist (Midnight Blue this time), then I've dipped the tips of the flowers in the overspray...great way to use up the leftover glimmer mist and to change up the look of your flowers.
Thanks for dropping by...check out the Savvy forum to see how the rest of the DT used this month's feature product.

Cheers, Lis.

Savvy news...

Last Saturday night, I hosted a blind scrap challenge at Scrapbook Savvy, and now its time to reveal my layout! It was inspired by this layout by Mou Saha...but I had to convert it from 8.5x11 and flip it to suit my photo. I seriously love her style, and the layering of all the scalloped edge pieces on that layout just spoke to me.
Speaking of blind scraps...did you know that there's another one at Savvy this Saturday night? Scrapbook Savvy's Spring Fling cybercrop starts this Friday night and you have until next Thursday to upload your projects. You can expect some fabulous challenges (think sketch, colour, criteria...), the chance to win great prizes, games and chat with all the Savvy girls. Click on the blinkie below for more details.

Pebbles Inc reveal...

This week, Mimi Leinbach challenged the Pebbles Inc DT to use hand cutting as a distinct part of our layouts, cards or projects...so I decided to cut out a bracket shaped background. I have used papers and stickers from the Lil' Miss range. The rest of the DT have created some gorgeous projects...check them out here.
These pics of Andrew and Eme are from a few years ago and I just love her chubby little toddler arms wrapper around her Daddy.

Layout to share...

Just a little something I made this weekend using some Rouge de Garance papers that Scrapbooking Delights are now stocking. I love the soft colours, and they go perfectly with the Kaisercraft pearls, Green Tara flowers, a bit of lace and a doilie I had lying around.
I also adore this photo of Eme and I! She is such a beautiful little girl...and yes, I am allowed to be biaised being her mamma!

Hope you all had a fab weekend! Lis.

Finding inspiration...

You just never know where you'll find inspiration or something that speaks to you. Etsy is always a good place to start!! So many talented people out there...including this one. I found this print, and its meant to be customisable...but it already has Andrew's and my initials...its meant to be!

Love you babe and miss you!

CCG #132

Color Combos Galore #132 has been revealed...check out these delicious colours!! The DT have done a beautiful job with these...check them out here.
raspberry - pina colada - banana boat - licorice

Here's my take on the colour scheme. I went a little bit more muted on the tones and I love how these colours came together. The pics are a little fun and bound to make you hungry! lol. We treated Andrew to a special brunch for his birthday and I just had to take pics of all the yummy foods!
I've also been playing with some fun papers by Allison Ellis Designs which have just hit the shelves at Scrapbooking Delights. They come in His and Her birthday designs.
I love this pic of Eme (thanks Kim)...it was taken at Rachael's baby shower recently. She didn't even noticed she was being photographed, she was that involved with eating that cupcake! In fact, she ate about 10 of them!! All different flavours and sizes and all delicious. Speaking of Rachael...you should read her blog...seriously funny stuff about birthing classes.

Goodness me...who knew I would have 300 things to talk about?!! lol. Just thought I'd share another layout from the retreat...

Lots more yummy Little Yellow Bicycle "Traveller" and delish Prima. The title reads "How much do I love you? Count the waves"... 1, 2, 3 awhhhh.

Here's to the next 300 posts. Cheers, Lis.

Heads up for fun at Savvy!

Photobucket

Random post following...

Hi All, I hope you're all keeping well. I am feeling a lot better now that the flu has finally left my system after 8 weeks!! However, Eme is now unwell and had to visit the hospital on Saturday...damn asthma! I feel so helpless when she's struggling to breathe. Thankfully she didn't have to be admitted and she appears to be on the mend. Poor chicken.

Yesterday we celebrated Father's Day with my family and Andrew's parents at the Gymea Hotel...very yummy! The kids gave Andrew a couple of polo shirts, some boxer shorts, a Stiggy bank (Top Gear, for the uninitiated), as well as a mini album. My Dad is a huge fan of Billy Connolly, so I treated him to his complete boxed set of "World Tour" dvds. Andrew's Dad recently bought a caravan, so we bought him a Road Atlas - very handy for the caravan. Seth also picked out a Stiggy bank for him too...lol.

We then dropped Andrew at the airport and he'll be away a little while for work. The drive home from the airport takes around 1.5 hours and Seth entertained me the whole way home telling me jokes, and reading me stories...time well spent! Andrew took the mini-album away with him, so when he returns, I'll share it here. Its full of pics of him and kids, plus Seth did the journaling about what they like about Daddy. One of the pages says "Daddy looks like a friendly man". lol.

Here's some incredibly bad pics we took in the car park of the hotel...full sun, plenty of glare and lots of double chins! lol...but we've recorded it, and that's the main point.

While away at the Scrapbooking Delights retreat last month, I was feeling all lovey dovey and missing my hubby, so I created this one about him. Kim picked up some goodies for me from the Stitches and Craft Fair because I was too unwell to go...and yes, if I missed the craft fair, I really was feeling very very very very sick indeed! lol. Loving those LYB Traveller transparencies and the Sullivans diecut lace paper!
A couple of weeks ago, I decided to get tattooed on the spur of the moment! Well, I had been planning it for quite some time, but I didn't think I'd be getting it done quite so soon. I went along to hold my friend Jodie's hand while they tattooed her foot, and ended up getting mine done too! I'm really happy with it. Its nice and small and discreet (inner left wrist) and it says "s&e" for Seth and Emeline. I designed it myself using CK's Love Note font...too funny that I have a scrapbooking font on my body permanently! The kids are completely fascinated with it, and Eme keeps asking me when I'm going to wash it off. Seth just tells her "its there until she DIES!!". He also tells me he's getting one right up his forearm like the footy players...eek, he's only 6 (and very impressionable). I figure at 35, I've made the right decision for me. lol.
Anyhoo...off to pick up the kids from school, daycare etc, and commence the nightly routine of dinner, bath and bed. Have a great week everyone! Lis.

PageMaps - Studio Calico sketch contest

Here's my entry for the PageMaps/Studio Calico sketch contest this month. This pic of Anne and I was taken at the Scrapbooking Delights retreat recently and the blossoms in the background inspired the colour palette. Such a great sketch to work with and definitely one I'll be using again in the future!

Here's a few detail pics. I just love Bella's "Sarah Jane" range...so very pretty and girlie!

Here's my take...
I love everything about Spring...the flowers blooming, butterflies, and little girls dresses. This layout has it all. The pics are of Eme (of course) at old Nan and Pop's house a couple of years ago. I can't help but smile when I remember how shy she was then...she wouldn't go near the family, but she'd happily play with her treasured dolly and swing on the handrail. What do you love about Spring?

Lis.

Pebbles DT challenge

This week, Marielle challenged the Pebbles DT to create a monochromatic layout...so I chose pink tones!

These pics of Eme were taken the other day during a sun shower...she was adamant that she had to put on her raincoat and oversized gumboots for those few drops of rain. lol. She's such a sweetie.

For this layout, I've used patterned paper from the Skipping Along range, as well as Pebbles Chips, Candy Dots, ribbon and chalk. The great thing about the Pebbles product is that it coordinates beautifully across every range! Check out the Pebbles blog to see what the rest of the DT have been up to!
