CCG #120

This week's combo is very bright and girlie, and I still managed to do a layout for my son! lol.
delicious watermelon - bubblegum pink - vanilla ice cream - sweet pineapple
I started creating this one at Sar's place, and it looks nothing like the layout I began! lol. I just kept adding and adding, and I kept finding more and more stuff within the colour combo, so the end result is quite cluttered. I even managed to add a feather! lol. This is just one of those random pics of the kids that I like, so the journaling is for Seth...to let him know that even though Eme drives him crazy, he really does love and adore her!
Ciao for now, Lis.

Wicked Princesses - 7 Deadly Sins

Week 2: ENVY!
Sometimes we all get a visit from the green eyed monster, so this week's challenge was to scrap one of those jealousies. My "thing" is jeans...I have never owned a well fitting pair of jeans and everytime I see a woman walking down the street wearing a pair, I just can't help but think "b#*ch". lol. Unfortunately my shape isn't really catered for...small waist + wide hips/bum x short statue = no go! Oh well, one day...that's what I'm going to the gym for. Our layouts had to be black and green, and include transparencies and doodling. I've used two different Hambly sheets here, plus a Heidi Swapp ghost shape. The right hand side of the layout is actually transparent, but it didn't scan too well...see below.
Wondering what next week's challenge will be now! Bring it on...

layouts to share

This month at Inspired Blueprints, we have released a massive 8 sketches! Here's my take on Sketch 19. This sketch was so fun to use...lots of elements with the focus on a single photo, which in this layout is a pic of the flowers my mum and dad sent me for my birthday this year. My friend Sandra also gave me some felt and challenged me to use it straight away, so here 'tis - the black journaling frame and strip are by BlueyeDezines - an Aussie manufacturer.
A big shout out CONGRATULATIONS too to Sandra who picked up the second prize ribbon at the 2009 Sydney Royal Easter Show! She had an entry in the Scrapbooking category and had to create a double layout, which included photos, a title and journaling. Sandra created an Easter themed layout...can't wait to see it in the flesh.
At the last minute, I also decided to have a go at this month's White with One challenge. The criteria were white with coral and add journaling on your photos.
So there you have it. This isn't a colour I normally use, so it was a good challenge, and once again I didn't realise I had so many shades of it in my stash! I even stitched my buttons!! Sandra would be so proud. lol. I usually leave my buttons naked, but decided they needed dressing up for this one.
Cheers, Lis.

slowly, slowly...

I'm building up my sidebar again! I'm trying to remember who I had there and trying to find their links. I've added a few new ones too. I got so used to just clicking away, that I never took much notice of the actual address. I love blog hopping too, and I know of a few others that use my blog as a jumping off point. I'm getting there...one link at a time! lol. Can you imagine if it was all the numbers in my mobile that got deleted?!! I'd be completely lost!
[Mental note - go and make a hard copy of those phone numbers.]
Who do have in your links? Who's your favourite scrapper and worthy of a sticky beak?

Basic Grey at Savvy...

I recently got to play with the Basic Grey "Boxer" line for Scrapbook Savvy and here are my layouts. I've used quite a number of the papers in the range as well as the coordinating alphabet and embellishment stickers and chipboard shapes. Head on over to Savvy to pick some up for yourself!
"Big and Little" and "We R Sisters" are currently on display in the Basic Grey Gallery too.

I'll update soon about the weekends festivities.
Ciao, Lis.

watch this space...

I tried to change up the look of my blog, and successfully managed to delete all my links! d'oh. It'll be back to normal in a jiffer.

CCG #119 is up...

and this week Janet surprised us with the most gorgeous shade of purple! I love this combo, another really fresh, spring inspired scheme. All the colour names come from Barney the Dinosaur. lol.

barney purple - bj yellow - vanilla milkshake - treehouse green

Here's my take...featuring some more pics from Easter this year. I'm determined to have all my Easter photos scrapped and in the album in the next couple of weeks so that I'm not doing it the day before next Easter. lol. Now if only I could do that with all my Christmas photos! I bought some Easter hats for the kids, and I was trying to take some nice, colourful pics of them wearing them, however the kids had other ideas. Seth allowed me to take one photo, and Eme decided all she wanted to do was pull faces.

I'd love to see your take on the color combos in the gallery...upload them here.

Cheers, Lis.

more layouts and a giveaway...

Last weekend I played along at the BackPorchMemories Spring Fling Crop...and here's a few of the layouts I created for the challenges.
This layout was for the Font-tastic challenge where you had to use more than one font on your page...so, I used 7! Nothing like a bit of overkill, and sadly it didn't even make a dent in my stash. I took these pics last Christmas while I was walking the neighbourhood, admiring all the Christmas lights...so pretty!
Next up, the Scraplift with a Difference...loved this challenge! We had to scraplift the person above us in the forum thread. I scraplifted Eileen (irishirish15) and chose her "Family" layout out of the gallery to lift. I really like how this one turned out and I'm even prouder of myself that I'm scrapping this year's Easter photos and the month isn't even over yet! lol. This layout was for the "Beginnings" challenge...we had to scrap a new beginning, and I found these photos in my stash of Seth building/moving into his first big boy bed...the start of him not being a baby anymore. This photos crack me up...he wasn't even two yet and he was painting his own room and building his own bed. Andrew reminded me that Seth kept saying brssssht noises (imagine the sound of the cordless drill) while he was "helping". lol. Look at those gorgeous red curls! They are well and truely gone now...sigh.Lastly, this one was for the Interior Inspiration challenge...Jana posted a pic of an interior advertisment and we had to create a layout inspired by it. I picked out the colour scheme, the neutral background, the advert had chocolate lettering in two different sizes, the florals, fabric etc...and I finally managed to use one of the chandelier rubons I've been hanging onto! yay! Check out how gorgeous my girl is!
Now, onto the giveaway...Ange at Scrapware is back on deck and has decided to giveaway some more SIA release product! So if you missed out on the giveaway I had, here's a second chance! Woohoo!! Entries close Sunday 26 April 2009.
Thanks for tuning in everyone. Cheers, Lis.

Layouts by the kiddies...

Yesterday it was pouring rain at home and the kids couldn't go outside to play, so they scrapbooked instead. I found some scraps of paper for them, some stickers and leftover photos, and off they went. I think they did incredibly well.

First up, Sethy-boy (who's nearly 6)...here he is adding his journaling. Unfortunately, he made a mistake, so I stamped a journaling spot for him and off he went again... Here's his finished layout. The journaling reads "A little while ago we celebrated Easter with our cousins Sabine and George. April 2007". lol. I think he must be listening to me rabbiting on about scrapbooking because he needed odd numbers of stickers. hehe.
Here's Miss Emeline (3.5) going to town with the glue stick. The stuff on her page isn't going anywhere! lol.
Here's the finished product. She was adamant that she wanted flowers on her layout (she even used the word "layout"...ahh, so proud). She picked out the flowers (all 6 of them!), I layered them up, put a brad through and added some foam tape for her and she stuck it all together. Then she went the sticker sneeze with the Easter egg stickers...but she loves it! The journaling tag reads "Happy Easter" apparently. lol. I handed her the letters she needed for her title and she was terribly upset that she couldn't stick the whole sheet of Thickers on there! No way Jose!
Being the good scrapbooker, she even journaled on the back. Its a letter to her cousins. Once again I have to take her word for it. lol.
Hope that made you smile...they are now proudly hanging in my scrap room for inspiration.
Ciao for now.

Wicked Princesses - 7 Deadly Sins

Week 1 - Pride
The challenge this week was to create a layout with the title "Its All About Me". It also had to be a monochromatic purple layout and must include bling! Talk about freaking me out! But, I rose to the challenge, and here 'tis. I never realised I had so much purple in my stash!! lol.
This weekend I scrapped my little heart out - 12 layouts! The last retreat I went to, I only created 14 and that was none stop and with very little sleep. So 12 is amazing considering I still had plenty of family time included there. Even Seth and Eme created a layout each! I will scan and upload them for you to check out soon - not bad at all for a nearly 6 and 3.5 year olds.
The kids were driving us mental yesterday being cooped up indoors due to the rain, so Andrew and I were wracking our brains for wet weather activities. We played "Operation" (the Simpsons version...d'oh!), they painted plaster rabbits, scrapbooked, watched tele, and generally ran riot through the house - and now it looks like a bomb hit it! lol. Think I'll be stocking up on craft stuff for the next big wet. Andrew is on holidays this week with Sethy-boy, so no doubt they'll have a great time while I'm at work. lol.
Have a great week everyone. I will upload some more layouts soon.
Cheers, Lis.

This arrived today...

and now I'm totally sad! The FINAL issue of Simple Scrapbooks!! Its a seriously gorgeous issue too and I'm so bummed that they won't be printing it anymore.Thank you Simple for all of your inspiration over the years. I have kept every issue I've ever bought and I still refer back to them - some of the schemes are just timeless! Tonight I'm off to the midnight crop, so I'll be making some layouts inspired by Simple. You will be missed.

Savvy April challenges...

Over at Scrapbook Savvy, there are a number of challenges being run with the opportunity to win gift vouchers for the store! All entries need to be uploaded by the end of April. Here are my takes...

Kerryn's Ad Challenge
Create a layout inspired by this ad.
This ad had such a striking design and I knew I wanted to keep it fairly true, hence the black and orange. The photos are of some of our kids shoes...I just can't bear to throw them away! Andrew came up with the witty title. Savvy Random Challenge
Create a layout inspired by this colour scheme
It was a challenge to pull all these colours together, and a great excuse to use up my Primas! I haven't created a layout with a heap of flowers for ages, so this was a bit of fun. I've used different coloured/sized/style brads in the centres of each bloom. The photo is of the kids and their cousins on Easter Saturday...before they got all dirty! lol.Sketch Challenge
Create a layout based on this Page Maps sketch
Once again, I kept it fairly simple and close to the sketch. These pics were taken in our front yard. We have a colony of frogs living out there at the moment and the kids love trying to find them in amongst the agapanthus. We have a special catcher that has holes in the top and a magnifying glass so the kids can get a close up look...don't worry though, the little frogs are only in there long enough to take a peek at, and then we release them.
So there you have it! Lots of inspiration at Scrapbook Savvy...come and join in the fun! You've got to be in it to win it, as they say.
Lis.

Another colour combo...

Seems like CCG#117 was only just released, and now #118 has been posted at Color Combos Galore! How fresh and lovely are these colours?!!
easter grass - basket brown - l'il chick yellow - robin egg blue
...and here's my take. This photo was taken on Easter Sunday at the grandparents house. I was going to do an Easter layout with this combo, but once I printed this photo, I wanted to make more about how much we miss Bianca, David, Sabine and George! I'll save the Easter photos for another layout...perhaps I'll use the combo again! Its just so delightful!

I hope you're all keeping well, and settling back into the working week after the four day break...I know it was a struggle for me this morning! lol. Cheers, Lis.

We have a winner! and another colour combo...

So, in an effort to be completely random, I asked Sethy-boy to pick a number between 1 and 30, and he picked 12, which was Anthea!
Love your idea of using H2Os...might have to give that a go myself! Anthea, drop me an email with your addy so I can post off your Scrapware goodness! heyhoewarren@aapt.net.au

This week's scheme at Color Combos Galore has been released, and it just screamed Easter to me!
spring green - blue easter egg - white bunny - tsougrisma red
Here's my layout...I thought I better scrap last Easter's photos before this Easter rolled around...and I just scraped in! lol. I always end up doing a double layout for these kinds of occasions...I just can't manage to fit all the photos on one page! Its a tradition in our house that the kids get dressed up (or is that forced by their mother?)...so fluffy ears it is. This year they got a new set, plus some hats...will post photos soon.
btw - the name for the red used in this combo "tsougrisma" is a Greek Easter game...read about it here...a lot of fun to play. Andrew's grandfather used to play with them, but he was an awesome cheater - tapping (more like smashing) the sides of their eggs instead of the ends so that he'd win every time! lol. We spent Easter at the grandparents house again this year, and it was especially fun because Andrew's cousins were visiting from the US. We haven't seen them for about 2 years now and it gave me the warm and fuzzies watching the kids all play together. I took a tonne of photos and will be turning them into layouts real soon. Bianca spoiled us with American candies, and I'm ruing the day I ever met a Nestle Butterfinger! They are delicious!! and now I can't get them here! ahhhhhh!! lol. Seriously though, why aren't they sold in Australia? Bianca also delivered my Dream Date Barbie safely as well as bag of scrapping goodies! Thank you soooo much B!

Its been a great long weekend and its back to work tomorrow...oh well, all good things must come to an end! Lis.

Are you up for the challenge??

INSPIRED BLUEPRINTS
Its Blueprint Bonanza at Inspired Blueprints during April! Instead of the usual two sketches, we are releasing 8!! Each of our Inspiration Team members have created layouts and sketches for you, and there's also interviews so you can get to know the team better. This month's sponsor is Gauche Alchemy, who very generously provided the design team with kits to play with. Here's my layout based on Sketch 13 by Lynlee.
Gauche Alchemy's kits contain lots of vintage book papers and ephemera, and I've used a lot of it here. The chipboard tree featured here is the one I designed for Scrapware. I have covered the canopy in fabric, inked the leaves and flowers, and added a little kindy glitz. Other pieces I've used from the kit are the stamp, the puppy comes from a children's book, other book pages, and dictionary sheet...it just so happened I received the "d" page and was able to use "daily" and "dabster" (which apparently means "an expert"), so that worked out well with the theme of my layout.COLOR COMBOS GALORE
I almost forgot to share CCG #116! Last week's combo was inspired by one of CCG's participants. I love this combo! Its so masculine and fresh. CCG #117 will be released very soon and I can't wait to share that one with you.
clear sky - solar flare - crisp linen - milk chocolate
Here's my take...I have had this sheet of Rouge de Garance paper in my stash forever, and it was finally good to put it into use. I took this photo of Seth one day when he was feeling a little blue about being smaller/younger than the other kids...I keep reminding him that he will be as old as the other kids one day and to enjoy his childhood, because its the only one you get...hence, small steps. I have used Scrapware's new fonts that were released at SIA.GCD STUDIOS!
I recently applied for the GCD Studios design team, and unfortunately I was unsuccesful, however, they have selected me to be one of their "Spotlight Gals"! Over the next few months, they will showcase a few of my layouts...so exciting! I will upload the layouts once they've been shown on the GCD blog. They have released some gorgeous papers in the last couple of months and I can't wait to get my hands on some and play.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST...
I have been asked to join the design team at Scrapbook Savvy! Sar is the new owner of Scrapbook Savvy as from yesterday, and I'm so excited for her. Sar has a passion for scrapbooking that is immeasurable and I can't wait to create with/for her and the design team.
During April, you have the opportunity to win a gift certificate from Scrapbook Savvy, simply by scraplifting this layout by me!
You can take inspiration from the colours, or the design, or whatever it is that this layout inspires in you. Can't wait to see your takes...upload them here. There's are some other challenges being run in the forum at the moment as well. Come and say hi.

One last plug...don't forget to leave your comments on the previous post to go into the drawer for some Scrapware goodies!

Have a fabulous Easter everyone...hope the bunny leaves you lots of chockie goodness! Lis.

SIA - tears and triumphs...

This year, I was representing Scrapware at the Scrapbook Industry of Australia tradeshow. Scrapware's release was totally gorgeous! I'm so thrilled I got to be a part of it. Not only that, my designs were released too...so excited! Here's some pics...check out our display...all of those pink frames contain our new designs. Here's Ange, Kim and I...
Here we are teaching our make and takes and the totally cute name badges I made us using the new funky birds, as well as my friend Sandra working the Bella stand...Kim and I at the Awards dinner, my designs, and my friend Sar who is the new, very proud owner of Scrapbook Savvy! Here's a close up of my designs...I'm so proud of myself for taking a leap of faith. I have a lot of ideas running through my head, and some that are currently being digitised and cut...so watch out for Lisa Warren Designs for Scrapware at a scrapbook store near you soon! This release features a cute little peacock that would sit perfectly on the corner of your photo, my trees, flourishes, feathers and puzzle journaling pieces (the centre of which pops out so you can insert a photo).
Here's the run down of events...grab a chair because this is lengthy...then you'll understand why I haven't updated my blog before now! lol.

MONDAY

Sandra and I had a great morning together...taking it easy driving up to visit Scraploot, then lunch at Rhodes and finally on to the State Sports Centre at Homebush to set up the stalls. Kim picked Ange up at the airport and met us there. Poor Ange had been in hospital that morning with back spasms...they told her it was just muscular and she'd be ok, so she flew to Sydney. It was obvious she was not well, but being the trooper she is, she persevered and the stall looked beautiful! Monday night after we'd finished setting up, we went for dinner at the brewery downstairs from the Ibis, then headed up to bed. As Ange's back was sore and Kim is 6ft tall, I took the trundle, which was like a cot (lol). We discovered around 9pm that the air conditioning wasn't working, so we asked for maintenance to come up. Unfortunately, the technician couldn't fix it, so we requested a new room...now the story turns a little Goldilocks and the three bears...the next room was full of smoke; room no. 3 had no air conditioning either; room no. 4 was also full of smoke; and room no. 5 was just right! lol. We unpacked and settled in for the night. At some stage during the night, Kim got up and when she returned to her bed, she tripped over, nearly broke her toe and fell on top of me! lol!

TUESDAY
Its raining. Ange's condition was deteriorating rapidly, so she did the fastest shuffle she could into the centre. The doors opened at 9am and its on. At first it was quiet because most people went off to classes, but it quickly started to pick up once everyone saw how gorgeous our make and takes were...door hangers...stop/keep out for boys and birdhouse and flowers for girls...totally usable and adorable. The feedback we received from everyone was really positive and exciting. Ange went to see the sports doctor and he diagnosed a prolapsed disc or ruptured disc! Not quite the "muscular" issue the hospital in Melbourne thought it was. The dr prescribed a whole different range of painkillers and sent her back to us. She spent the rest of the day lying down in the first aid room and Kim and I looked after the stand. It was busy, busy, busy!!

TUESDAY NIGHT
Ange wasn't well enough to attend the Awards dinner, so Kim and I pushed on. Dinner was okay and the company was good...excitement though when the fire alarms went off and the firemen came into the room! I don't think they knew what hit them!! A room full of cackling, scrapbooking woman bearing cameras!! lol. We got back to the room around 11ish, chatted for a while, then went to sleep. At 1.20am, Ange woke us up to say she was in incredible pain...she couldn't even get out of bed! We called an ambulance and they took her to Concord Hospital. Kim and I followed to make sure she was okay, then returned to the hotel. We went to sleep around 4am.

VERY EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING
It is still raining. At 5am-ish the fire alarms went off in the hotel! At first I thought it was the alarm to wake me up, but it registered pretty quickly when it went to the "whoop" sound! I stuck my head out the door to see everyone else trying to figure out what to do. I quickly threw on a cardigan over my pyjamas, grabbed some shoes, and started down the stairs. I had makeup all over my face and terrible hair. The hotel was fully booked out too - The Who had a concert on that night and there were people everywhere!! So embarrassing - in my jammies in the pouring rain. The fire brigade gave the hotel the all clear, so we headed back up. We dropped back off to sleep, then the alarm went off again! Unbelievable!!! Kim asked that I leave her there to burn...we were so tired. Thankfully the alarm stopped and we could go back to sleep (so far the sleep total was about 2 hours for the night). Not one hour later, Ange rang from the hospital to say she was being discharged. We begged for an extra hour's sleep, then we'd pick her up.

LATER WEDNESDAY MORNING
Breakfast at the hotel, then we headed off to pick up Ange. The poor chicken had been thrown out of her bed and was waiting for us in the emergency room. She still couldn't walk properly and lord knows what medications they had her on. We dropped her back at the hotel, then headed off to the tradeshow. The show was really busy and people were lining up to do the make and takes. Sales were going really well too! Kim picked up Ange from the hotel at 1.30pm and brought her back to the show. By now, she was in a wheelchair and in immense pain. I still can't believe that the hospital discharged her!! It makes me cranky just thinking about it. The poor chook was sick too, then spent rest of the day in the first aid room again. By this stage, we were all exhausted! The show wrapped up, we started packing and checked on Ange, who was really, really unwell. We called another ambulance and demanded they take her to a different hospital...so off to RPA it was. Sandra and some of the volunteers packed up the rest of the stand and I am eternally grateful! I can't believe how many people were willing to drop everything to help us out...special thanks to Sandra, Sally, Lorraine, Kelly, Allison, Heidi and the volunteers (sorry I can't remember your names). I rang Ange's hubby to let him know, then we headed off to the hospital...the doctors at RPA were fantastic. They were treating Ange so well and she was very well medicated by the time we got there...although she did have a reaction to the morphine...but what do you expect after 3 days from hell. lol. Kim and I drove home in the fog and rain and got home about 10.30pm. It was such a long day! You'll all be happy to know that Ange has made it back to Melbourne now and is slowly getting back on her feet.

So, after reading all of that, I think you deserve a prize!!
To celebrate the fact that Scrapware had a great show despite the setbacks, I am having a giveaway! I have a sample pack of all the new release items valued at $80 to giveaway to one lucky blog reader!! Leave a comment on this post and let me know how use chipboard on your layouts...I will draw the winner next Friday (10 April).

Cheers, Lis.
ps. Wendy and Laura...I'll be sending your goodies from the previous giveaway this week.
